Connection
Strengthening attachment and relationships between parents and children.
Parent support · Carine, Perth & online Australia-wide
Parenting can be challenging, particularly when your child is experiencing emotional, behavioural or mental health difficulties. It can be difficult to know how best to respond, how to support your child and how to maintain connection during times of distress.
What we focus on
Strengthening attachment and relationships between parents and children.
Helping parents understand the emotional and mental health needs underlying their child's behaviour.
Helping parents feel less alone and more confident when family life becomes difficult.
Our approach
At Perth Parenting Consultancy, we believe that strong, secure relationships are central to children's emotional wellbeing. We offer compassionate, evidence-informed parenting support to help parents better understand their children's emotional needs, strengthen attachment and navigate the challenges that can arise throughout childhood and adolescence.
Our approach recognises that when children struggle, parents need support too. We work alongside parents to build confidence, develop a deeper understanding of their child's experiences and find practical ways to foster connection, emotional safety and positive family relationships.
Our team brings experience and training across family and marital therapy, couples work, attachment-informed approaches and child and adolescent emotional wellbeing. We draw on a range of therapeutic frameworks to support families in ways that are respectful, collaborative and tailored to their individual needs.
You don't have to have all the answers. Sometimes, strengthening the connection is the best place to start.
Our services
One-on-one sessions for a parent, or for both parents together, focused on what is actually happening in your family right now — and on developing a plan you can genuinely follow.
Meet our practitioners
Founder & Principal Practitioner · Accredited Mental Health Social Worker & Therapist
Kate is a Mental Health Social Worker and Therapist with more than 20 years of experience working across government and non-government mental health services in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
Kate has extensive experience supporting children, adolescents and families experiencing mental health and emotional difficulties, including complex presentations and challenges with emotional regulation and behaviour. Her background includes working in child and adolescent mental health services, first episode psychosis services and specialist services supporting people who have experienced trauma.
Kate has a particular passion for supporting parents to strengthen their relationships and attachment with their children, especially when children and young people are experiencing mental health or emotional difficulties. She recognises that when a child is struggling, it can also be an overwhelming and uncertain time for parents. Her approach is grounded in attachment, connection, understanding and emotional safety, helping parents make sense of their child's experiences and feel more confident in responding to their needs.
Kate is passionate about helping parents feel supported rather than judged. She believes that strengthening the parent-child relationship, particularly during challenging periods, can play an important role in supporting a child's emotional wellbeing.
Her approach is warm, thoughtful and collaborative, recognising that every family is different and that parents don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes, having the right support, understanding and guidance can make all the difference.
Kate holds a Bachelor of Social Work (Honours), a Masters in Human Service Counselling and a postgraduate one-year Certificate in Family and Marital Therapy. She has undertaken training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), is an Accredited EMDR Practitioner with the EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA), and has completed training in the Tuning in to Teens parenting program. Her broader therapeutic experience includes Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy.
